Twins: Slumping Trevor Plouffe stays in clean-up spot

Trevor Plouffe's June swoon continues.

Entering Tuesday's play, the Twins' third baseman had just one hit in his past 29 at-bats for an .035 batting average.

All but one of those at-bats had come since the end of May, when Plouffe posted a .951 combined on-base/slugging percentage that included five multi-hit games in his final seven tries.

Twins manager Paul Molitor said Plouffe and hitting coach Tom Brunansky "have looked at the mechanics of it," but it sounded like he believed Plouffe's downturn was more about his pitch recognition and selection.

"I don't see a big (mechanical) thing on the side," Molitor said.
