CINCINNATI -- For the second time in six weeks, Kennys Vargas has been demoted to the minor leagues.
You might have heard of his replacement: Miguel Sano.
The Twins will promote the slugging third baseman from Double-A Chattanooga, where Vargas will take Sano's place on the roster. Sano will join the Twins in time for Thursday's start of a key four-game series with the division-leading Kansas City Royals.
"It doesn't feel like it's real," Sano told the Chattanooga Times Free Press. "I've called like a thousand people in my family."
Sano, 22, figures to get most of his playing time at designated hitter, where the Twins ranked near the bottom in terms of production in all major categories.
