KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Rookie right-hander Trevor May will head to the bullpen to make room in the starting rotation for newly reinstated Ervin Santana, the Twins announced Saturday.
Rather than use a six-man rotation into the all-star break, the Twins will be able to give surging Kyle Gibson two more starts: Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles and July 12 against the Detroit Tigers. Left-hander Tommy Milone will start on normal rest Wednesday.
"I kind of liked the idea of getting Gibson two more starts and a couple of home games against a couple of good teams," Twins manager Paul Molitor said.
