Twins: Ricky Nolasco will have ankle examined by NFL specialist

CINCINNATI -- Twins right-hander Ricky Nolasco will travel to Charlotte, N.C., to have his ailing right ankle examined Thursday by Dr. Robert Anderson, co-chair of the NFL's foot and ankle committee.

Nolasco, who last pitched on May 31, has cut short multiple bullpen sessions despite taking a cortisone shot and being fitted for orthotic inserts.

Anderson, the team orthopedist for the NFL's Charlotte Panthers, is considered a leading expert in the field. He is best known for operating on a number of NFL players diagnosed with a midfoot or Lisfranc injury.

Recovery period can range from six to eight weeks, if surgery isn't required, to as long as five to six months if surgery is performed.
