As Byron Buxton works to return from a left thumb injury, the injured Twins center fielder took swings underwater Friday.
"It's something a little different than I would have imagined 30 years ago," Twins manager Paul Molitor said.
Buxton did the new-age rehabilitation activity in conjunction with more traditional methods, such as swinging in the batting cage and fielding ground and fly balls in the outfield.
"Trying to get that feel back and get the hand strength back," Molitor said. "He said he feels really good."
Buxton, who made his major league debut June 14, was injured when he awkwardly slid head-first into second base June 23.
