Twins right-hander Blaine Boyer was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday with inflammation in his throwing elbow.
Fellow right-hander Michael Tonkin was recalled from Triple-A Rochester to take his place in a bullpen that remains at nine members for now.
Boyer, 34, has a 2.98 earned-run average in 51 outings for the Twins this season. Guaranteed just $750,000 after signing a minor-league deal in January, Boyer has activated all four of his appearance bonuses for an additional $100,000 in 2015 salary.
After a miserable start, Boyer went more than a month without allowing an earned run (17 1/3 innings) from April 17 to May 19.
