The Minnesota Twins placed outfielder Byron Buxton on the 15-day disabled list Friday with a left thumb sprain.
Buxton injured his thumb attempting to steal second base in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox at Target Field.
To fill Buxton's spot on the 25-man roster, the Twins recalled infielder Danny Santana from Triple-A Rochester. Santana, who made the Twins' Opening Day roster, has hit .308 (20-for-65) with six doubles, three triples and five RBIs in 15 games for the Red Wings since being optioned by the Twins on June 7.
