Josmil Pinto's prolonged slump at Triple-A Rochester could be viewed in a different light after his latest setback.
The power-hitting catcher from Venezuela will be placed on the seven-day disabled list with concussion-like symptoms.
Hitting just .102 (5 for 49) over 14 games since May 22, Pinto also was charged with a pair of throwing errors in the same game on Tuesday, giving him a team-high six this season.
Pinto, who has spent chunks of the past two seasons with the Twins' big-league roster, was the apparent frontrunner to open the year as Kurt Suzuki's backup until suffering concussion-like symptoms in the wake of a March 21 incident against the Baltimore Orioles.
