DETROIT -- Rookie right-hander Tyler Duffey is scheduled to start Thursday on normal rest, Twins general manager Terry Ryan confirmed Sunday.
That will be Duffey's 32nd combined start despite the fact he's already 40 innings past his 2014 innings limit. Duffey, 24, threw a career-high 112 pitches in notching his fourth straight quality start, but he has a physical stature and a pitch repertoire that make him less of a risk at this stage of the season, Ryan said.
"There are things about him," Ryan said. "Certainly there's his size (6-foot-3, 222 pounds) and his durability factor and his strength.
