The Twins kicked off the roster-management portion of their offseason Wednesday, outrighting three players off their 40-man roster.
Left-hander Aaron Thompson, outfielder Shane Robinson and catcher Eric Fryer all cleared waivers and have 48 hours to elect free agency, which players in their position typically do. It's possible the Twins will re-sign all three to minor-league deals, which is the path they took to key roles in the majors with the Twins this season.
Thompson, 28, went 1-3 with a 5.01 earned-run average in 41 outings before finishing out the year at Triple-A Rochester. He was not recalled in September.
