PITTSBURGH -- Joe Mauer picked a great time to end the longest home run drought of his career.
Jumping on a slider from Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Antonio Bastardo, Mauer hit a solo homer to right field in the top of the 13th inning as the Twins claimed a 4-3 victory Wednesday.
The late-night surprise at PNC Park gave the Twins their third extra-inning win in four tries this season. It also moved them six games above .500 (23-17) for the first time this season.
For Mauer, it was his first homer since last Aug. 17 against Kansas City's Jeremy Guthrie.
