The Rays on Friday acquired outfielder Oswaldo Arcia from the Twins for cash or a player to be named later on Friday.
Tampa Bay will make a corresponding move Friday to add Arcia to its active roster. Right-hander Andrew Bellatti was designated for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Arcia.
Prior to the trade, Minnesota had designated Arcia for release or assignment on June 16.
Arcia, 25, spent each of his four Major League seasons with the Twins, including a 20-homer campaign with Minnesota in 103 games in 2014.
