Twins: Bullpen stint helped get Alex Meyer back on track

MILWAUKEE -- Alex Meyer was an emotional wreck May 22 when he was demoted to the bullpen in the minors after failing to win a starting job in the Twins' rotation in spring training.

A month later, Meyer is major-league reliever in Minnesota after the right-hander revived his stalled career in the unlikeliest way.

"I love starting. I've done it my whole life," Meyer said before Friday night's game against the Brewers at Miller Park. "But going out there and getting my teeth kicked in every game wasn't a good experience."

Meyer posted a 0.53 earned-run average with 20 strikeouts against nine walks in nine relief appearances for Triple-A Rochester.
