The Twins are monitoring Tyler Duffey's innings as the 24-year-old makes crucial starts down the stretch of the American League wild-card chase.
"We don't want to abuse him by any stretch," Twins general manager Terry Ryan said. "He's a big, strong kid and we think he can handle what we're giving him, or we wouldn't put him out there."
Duffey proved up to the challenge again Monday night, allowing just one run on seven hits and two walks in 6 1/3 innings while striking out seven as the Twins beat Detroit 7-1 at Target Field.
Minnesota's offense provided plenty of early run support.
