The Twins promoted right-hander Alex Meyer from Triple-A Rochester on Thursday and will put him in the bullpen for this weekend's series against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
Acquired from Washington in the trade that sent Denard Span to the Nationals, Meyer, 25, is 3-3 with a 5.11 earned-run average with the Red Wings but has an 0.53 ERA in nine appearances since being moved to the bullpen.
He has 20 strikeouts and six walks in those nine innings.
Meyer takes the spot of Michael Tonkin, who was assigned to Rochester after Wednesday's 6-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
