Prospect Burdi headed for elbow surgery

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins announced on Friday that right-handed prospect Nick Burdi will undergo Tommy John surgery after suffering a torn right ulnar collateral ligament.

"Nick had some pain in his elbow after his last outing," Minnesota's chief baseball officer Derek Falvey said. "We brought him up to Minnesota and had him evaluated. We will have to to wait and work out the next details with him. That information will be coming in the next few days."

Burdi, who is Minnesota's No. 18 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, missed most of last season with a bone bruise.
