MINNEAPOLIS -- Trevor Plouffe's injury woes this season continued on Monday, as the third baseman was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left rib and he's expected to be out for roughly a month. First baseman Kennys Vargas was called up from Triple-A Rochester to take Plouffe's spot on the roster.
Plouffe suffered the injury after being hit by a pitch from White Sox reliever Michael Ynoa in the eighth inning of Wednesday's game. He was able to play in Minnesota's next two games, including a 3-for-4 performance with an opposite-field homer on Friday, but said the injury worsened over the last few days.
