The 1965 season was a special one for the Twins.
In more ways than one.
In what was just the Twins' fifth season in Minnesota, the franchise was selected to host the All-Star Game at Metropolitan Stadium on July 13, 1965 -- 50 years ago Monday.
"That was great," former Twins outfielder Tony Oliva said. "Being here in Minnesota, playing for the Minnesota Twins, the people pulling for you so hard -- that was unbelievable."
Oliva was one of six Twins on the American League team that season, along with catcher Earl Battey, first baseman Harmon Killebrew, outfielder Jimmie Hall, shortstop Zoilo Versalles and pitcher Mudcat Grant.
