Minnesota Twins' Torii Hunter drops suspension appeal

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Twins right fielder Torii Hunter has dropped his appeal and will begin serving his two-game suspension Saturday, the team announced.

Hunter was in Saturday's original lineup, batting fifth and playing right field. He figured to sit on Sunday, when the Twins are scheduled to play a second-straight day game, so the suspension essentially was halved without going through the appeal process.

He is due to be active for Monday's interleague game in St. Louis.

Hunter was ejected by plate umpire Mark Ripperger after being called out on strikes in the eighth inning of Wednesday's 7-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals.
