Twins designated hitter Kennys Vargas will sit out his second straight game Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Vargas has been batting .375 in May, including six multi-hit games and two home runs. On the season, the second-year Puerto Rican slugger is batting .250 with three homers and 10 runs batted in.
But he also had five strikeouts in his previous three games.
"I think it's good for him to back off a little bit now and then," Twins manager Paul Molitor said. "We've been doing that. I'm sure it's tough for him. Try to let him know to keep working and your name is going to be called at some point and come back and hopefully he can contribute.
