Twins general manager Terry Ryan doesn't think Miguel Sano's bat is big-league ready.
But he doesn't think Byron Buxton's is, either. And he didn't think Kennys Vargas was ready last season.
Yet both of those guys received call ups to the majors.
That's not ideal for Ryan. He doesn't want Target Field to simply be a training facility for the organization's rising stars of the future.
"You don't like to have them learn on the job up here," Ryan said. "That's not the objective."
Both Buxton and Vargas received the coveted big-league promotions because they filled needs.
