NEW YORK -- Michael Cuddyer, a former Twins first-round draft pick who played his first 11 seasons with Minnesota, is ready to retire after playing 15 seasons in the major leagues.
A person familiar with the situation told the Associated Press that Cuddyer is planning to call it a career. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Friday night because there hadn't been an official announcement.
ESPN first reported Cuddyer's plans.
Cuddyer turns 37 in March. He would leave with one season left on a two-year, $21 million contract that he signed with the New York Mets as a free agent.
