Mauer reaches 2,000-hit milestone with single

MINNEAPOLIS -- Twins first baseman Joe Mauer recorded the 2,000th hit of his career on Thursday against the White Sox with his second knock of the night, a seventh-inning single off Aaron Bummer.

Mauer, in his 15th big league season, pulled a third-inning single off White Sox starter Lucas Giolito to close in on the milestone.

BOSTON -- Red Sox slugger Hanley Ramirez was drilled on the right wrist by a pitch from Yankees right-hander Sonny Gray in the bottom of the first inning on Thursday night at Fenway Park and had to be removed from the game.
