Hughes to start Grapefruit League opener

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The Twins will start right-hander Phil Hughes in their Grapefruit League opener on Wednesday against the Red Sox at JetBlue Park, manager Paul Molitor announced Sunday.

Fellow right-hander Trevor May -- who will be stretched out as a starter, but is also a bullpen candidate -- is set to piggyback Hughes on Wednesday. Right-hander Tyler Duffey will get the nod Thursday night in the home opener at Hammond Stadium, followed by right-hander Ricky Nolasco.

Left-hander Tommy Milone starts Friday against the Pirates in Bradenton, while right-hander Ervin Santana is set to take the mound on Saturday against the Orioles at Hammond Stadium.
