Three years after Minnesota drafted him No. 2 overall, Byron Buxton returned to Target Field on Wednesday as the team's most celebrated prospect since Joe Mauer debuted in 2004.
"Very special," Buxton said during a pre-game news conference. "This is one of the dreams I wanted to (accomplish), play center field for the Twins one day. Finally getting that to happen today, so I'm very anxious to get out there and make that happen."
More than 33,000 fans are expected to attend Buxton's first game in Minnesota against the St. Louis Cardinals after the Twins promoted the 21-year-old speedster from Double-A Chattanooga to make his major-league debut Sunday at Texas.
