Charley Walters: Twins glad they took chance on Miguel Sano at 16

After 254 major league at-bats through age 22, Twins hall of famer Harmon Killebrew hit 11 home runs. Over 22 seasons, Killebrew ended up with 573 homers.

After 166 major league at-bats, Twins rookie Miguel Sano, 22, has 12 homers.

Killebrew, at age 17, received a $30,000 signing bonus from the Washington Senators out of Idaho.

Sano, at age 16, received a $3.15 million signing bonus as a 16-year-old out of the Dominican Republic.

Twins President Dave St. Peter remembers the meeting in 2009 when the team decided to sign Sano.
