DETROIT -- In his first game with the Twins on Saturday night, Tyler Austin's bat was a big difference in Minnesota's 4-3 win over the Tigers at Comerica Park.
Batting with one on and one out in the fifth inning against Tigers starter Francisco Liriano, Austin caught a 2-1 slider down the middle of the plate and sent it 405 feet to left field to give the Twins a 3-1 lead -- his first homer with the club.
And with the Tigers nearly mounting a ninth-inning comeback, Austin's home run was good for much more than a first-time highlight.
