The day before Thursday’s NBA draft, Timberwolves coach/president of basketball operations Tom Thibodeau and General Manager Scott Layden on Wednesday discussed with reporters everything from their preparations, the league’s upcoming free agency to young star Karl-Anthony Towns frame of mind.
Here is some of what was said in an offseason when the Wolves have shuffled their coaching and support staffs. The five moves included the departure of player development coach Vince Legarza, who worked closely daily with Towns as well as assistant coach Rick Brunson’s resignation:
• Legarza’s release sparked internet speculation that Towns is unhappy with a team that can give him a contract extension ranging from $157 million to $188 million this summer.
