The Wolves tried to come up with a deal for the backup point guard as free agency began, but Memphis' offer would have put them up against the salary tax.
Tyus Jones’ time playing for his hometown team has come to an end.
The Timberwolves announced Tuesday night that they will not match the three-year, $28 million offer sheet Jones received from the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Wolves had tried to come to a deal with Jones as free agency began and extended throughout the last week, but Jones’ offer from Memphis would have put them up against the salary tax and they would’ve been tied to Jones for the next two years with a salary over $9 million per season.
