The Timberwolves’ dogged pursuit of D’Angelo Russell has finally paid off.
Just two hours before the trade deadline Thursday, the Wolves acquired Russell in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, a 2021 first-round pick and a 2022 second-round pick, a team source told the Star Tribune.
The 2021 pick is protected through the top three in the draft and would become unprotected in 2022. The Wolves are also getting Jacob Evans and Omari Spellman in the trade.
The deal ended a courtship that started at the outset of free agency and never really seemed to stop even after Russell landed with Golden State.
