A rookie basketball card is worth significantly more than a card of a player in his second year. Why? It’s only one year. Not much has really happened. Maybe the player has a few more whiskers and can go out and drink at a bar legally. But really, it’s pretty much the same.

That’s how we work as a sports society, though. Rookies rule. If you have a Michael Jordan card from 1985-86, you’ll get around $200 or so. If you get his rookie card in 1984-85, well, you could do a lot worse.
