Two and a half decades to the day after the Timberwolves arena opened, city and team officials unveiled plans Tuesday for extensive renovations that will reshape the building inside and out.
The work is expected to begin next year and carry into 2017. All told, it will include a new glass facade, a relocated front entrance, revamped luxury suites, new concessions, a new scoreboard and other features.
Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges called the $129 million makeover "a sensible Minnesota solution."
The city, which owns the building, will pay $74 million. The Timberwolves and Lynx are kicking in $49 million, with the balance coming from AEG, the building's operator.
