Let’s kick-off the Timberwolves’ draft (history) party by taking a look at the franchise’s first-ever draft, which was also the final NBA draft of the 1980’s.
1989 NBA Draft
The inaugural Minnesota Timberwolves draft kick-started the franchise into gear, adding fresh talent including an All-Rookie first team point guard Pooh Richardson. Fun fact: the inaugural Timberwolves team actually featured Tom Thibodeau as an assistant coach.
Richardson stayed three years with the Wolves, averaging 15 points in 35.2 minutes per game, throughout 246 contests including 212 starts. Richardson was selected to the All-Rookie First Team his debut season, and was eventually traded in 1992 along with former Timberwolves coach Sam Mitchell.
