Minnesota Lynx Lose Renee Montgomery in Free Agency

The news that Renee Montgomery has signed a free agent deal with the Atlanta Dream, along with the retirement of Jia Perkins leaves the Minnesota Lynx short of guards behind starting fixtures Lindsay Whalen and Seimone Augustus.

Montgomery, who provided the Lynx with an aggressive defender on the perimeter over the last couple of seasons, apparently wanted to be closer to family, which was one of the reasons behind the move.

With the need to limit the minutes of the veteran starters, the Lynx have their work cut out for them in re-building the back court. Last season’s first round draft pick Alexis Jones, a terrific three-point shooter in college who saw sporadic action as a rookie, might be in line for more minutes, but with the Lynx trying to keep their championship window open as long as possible, look for them to look for more veteran guards to solidify the roster.
