Kevin McHale first met Flip Saunders during his recruiting trip to the University of Minnesota in the spring of 1976.
McHale, now the Houston Rockets' coach, was a senior at Hibbing (Minn.) High School when he went to check out campus and have dinner with the team.
At least that was what he thought would happen.
Instead, McHale was taken fishing by a group of players that included Saunders, then a Gophers junior. They fished near Owatonna from Friday until Sunday morning, when they had to drive McHale back to the Twin Cities to catch his plane home.
