After being behind 14 points in the second half with about eight minutes to play, Courage Kenny’s Jr. Rolling Timberwolves wheelchair basketball team defeated the Houston Hot Wheels, 53-50, to capture the team’s seventh national championship in the Varsity Division. This makes five national championships in eight years for the team which is led by volunteer coaches Doug Dixon, George Kiefner and Robert Doyle, who combined, have more than 50 years coaching experience.
Leading scorers in the championship game included Grady Gordon and Holden Kowalke, with 18 points each. Kowalke was named the game’s MVP. Senior Co-Captains Jonathan Laing and Collin Evans have both signed letters of intent to play wheelchair basketball at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater.
