The Wild called up former Gopher Mike Reilly on Wednesday, giving the Chanhassen native his first spot on an NHL roster.
Reilly, 22, was a highly sought-after free agent after leaving the University of Minnesota last year following his junior season. He chose a contract with the Wild over the Blackhawks, Penguins and several other teams.
Reilly was a standout last season for the Gophers, but he has struggled with the Wild's American Hockey League team in Iowa this season.
Through 23 AHL games, Reilly has two goals, seven assists and a minus-23 rating. Based off line rushes at Wednesday's practice, it doesn't seem likely Reilly will make his NHL debut in the Wild's Thursday game at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
