Unbeaten Hawkeyes hand Gophers their fourth straight loss

IOWA CITY -- Newly hired full-time Gophers coach Tracy Claeys has often mentioned the need to play well enough to have a chance to win in the fourth quarter.

Within striking distance against a top-15 team for the third straight week, the Gophers headed into the fourth quarter Saturday down 27-21 to No. 5 Iowa.

But for the third consecutive week, Minnesota fell short in a 40-35 loss to the Hawkeyes before a sellout crowd of 70,585 at Kinnick Stadium.

The Gophers (4-6, 1-5 Big Ten) have lost fourth consecutive games for the first time since 2011 and surrendered the Floyd of Rosedale trophy to their rival.
