David Plummer’s first Olympic appearance has been an exciting one, as the Minnesota Gophers alum earned the Bronze Medal in the Men’s 100 meter backstroke! Not only was this Plummer’s first Olympics, he was the oldest first time Olympian for the US since 1904. David wasn’t the only American to reach the podium, as teammate Ryan Murphy won gold. Xu Jiayu of China took the silver.
Plummer was a touch slower out of the blocks than he normally is, but made the turn after the first 50 in 3rd. He was briefly in 2nd but Murphy came on strong to win and Jiayu edged out David for silver.
