The University of Minnesota says it is opening an investigation into the circumstances surrounding an assistant coach from the 1980s.
Tom "Chico" Adrahtas is the subject of a recent expose in The Athletic about sexual misconduct allegations. The allegations cover a 40-year span of his coaching career at various stops, mainly in youth and junior hockey in the Chicago and Illinois area. But Ahdratas was an assistant coach for the Gophers during the 1984-85 season, under then-head coach Brad Buetow.
According to a letter distributed to the Minnesota community from athletic director Mark Coyle, the university has hired the law firm Perkins Coie to look into the matter.
