The Minnesota Golden Gophers used a pair of power play goals to cruise to a 3-1 win over the Michigan State Spartans on Thursday night. The Gophers are now 5-0 on the season and will go for their third consecutive sweep to open the season Friday night.
Minnesota got things going early just over seven minutes into the game when Ben Meyers took a nice feed from Ryan Johnson to score a power play goal and put Minnesota up 1-0.
Ninety-six seconds later it was Sampo Ranta making it 2-0 Gophers when he took a feed in front of the goal from Robbie Stucker and backhanded it past Spartan goalie Drew Deridder.
