Head coach P.J. Fleck announced at a press conference this morning that junior running back Shannon Brooks will miss the 2018 football season after suffering a non-contact injury that will require surgery. He will redshirt instead.
Brooks rushed for 369 rushing yards on 79 attempts with five touchdowns last season. In three seasons at Minnesota, he has amassed 1,728 rushing yards on 336 attempts with 17 touchdowns. The Gophers’ return senior running back and leading rusher Rodney Smith, who will be lead a pack of talented but unproven running backs — including redshirt junior Jonathan Femi-Cole, redshirt freshmen Mohamed Ibrahim and Dominik London, and true freshmen Nolan Edmonds and Bryce Williams.
