The Minnesota-St. Cloud State game on Saturday night will go down as one of the crazier games of the season. Minnesota's Blake McLaughlin grabbed a handful of Nick Perbix's jersey and hauled him down in overtime. McLaughlin, who seemingly acknowledged that even he knew he should have been penalized, pulled up, and the play almost came to a stop before the players realized there was no whistle. McLaughlin then scooped up the puck at the blue line, and it set up Minnesota's game-winning goal.
Minnesota head coach Bob Motzko called out Perbix for a dive after the game before walking that back in a press conference earlier this week, and the whacky ending even prompted a response from the NCHC office.
