Minnesota has a new assistant head coach. P.J. Fleck announced today that Maurice Linguist has been named the assistant head coach. Linguist joined Fleck’s staff last year as defensive backs coach, a position he will continue to hold. In addition to being the defensive backs coach, Linguist is the point man for recruiting in Georgia and Texas. The Georgia recruiting class this year was fantastic, and likely part of the reason for the promotion.
Linguist’s coaching was essential last year as the defensive backfield was ravaged by injuries. Minnesota used 11(!) defensive backs in 2017, and Jacob Huff was the only player to play every game.
