Gophers women's hockey: Pannek scores twice as Minnesota improves to 7-0

Kelly Pannek scored back-to-back goals late in the second period after Minnesota Duluth took a 2-0 lead, and the top-ranked Gophers went on to defeat the Bulldogs 5-2 on Friday night in the first game of a weekend series at Ridder Arena.

They were the seventh and eighth goals of the season for Pannek, a sophomore and Benilde-St. Margaret's graduate from Plymouth.

Dani Cameranesi, Sarah Potomak and Cara Piazza also scored for the Gophers (7-0, 5-0 WCHA).

Hannah Brandt, who had 99 goals among 236 career points entering the game, assisted on Cameranesi's goal. Brandt needs just 10 more points to surpass Natalie Darwitz (246 points) as the Gophers' all-time career points leader and seven more assists to surpass Darwitz (144 assists) as the school's all-time career assists leader.
