University of Minnesota softball player Sara Groenewegen was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America second team on Wednesday.
Groenewegen, a sophomore from White Rock, British Columbia, posted the second-highest win (31) and strikeout (379) totals in Gophers history. She ranked third in the nation in strikeouts and second in strikeouts per seven innings (11.3). She also batted .372 and led Minnesota with 12 home runs.
Groenewegen, who also was selected Big Ten player of the year, is Minnesota's 11th All-America softball player and first since 1991.
Also Wednesday, Kaitlyn Richardson, who just completed her senior season with the Gophers, signed a contract with the Dallas Charge of National Pro Fastpitch.
