Gophers: Soccer finds success with homegrown players

University of Minnesota women's soccer coach Stefanie Golan has led her team to a 11-2-2 record, 6-1 in the Big Ten, this season. The Gophers are ranked No. 11 in the nation, and lead the Big Ten conference with four games left in the regular season.

All of this success, by far the team's best season under Golan's direction, has come with a roster full of homegrown players: 20 of the 26 Gophers players are from Minnesota.

Of all the women's sports at Minnesota, the soccer team has the highest percentage of Minnesota-raised athletes, 77 percent. Including men's sports, only men's cross country (94 percent) and men's hockey (79 percent) are more densely Minnesotan.
