Gophers sophomore running back Berkley Edwards will leave the football team to focus on running track, his father, Stan Edwards, said Tuesday.
Edwards was behind freshman running backs Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks on the depth chart this season. He played in 12 games as a freshman but only two this season, against Purdue and Ohio State. He had two career touchdowns.
Brooks finished with 119 carries for 709 yards and seven touchdowns, while Smith had 670 yards and two touchdowns.
Edwards could return to Minnesota's track team or transfer to several interested schools, including the Notre Dame and Ohio State, Stan Edwards said.
