Gophers cornerback and punt returner Craig James broke a bone in his leg during the 27-0 loss to Northwestern on Saturday, Minnesota coach Jerry Kill told WCCO-AM.
James had two tackles against the Wildcats and didn't record a return. He was replaced by wide receiver KJ Maye on punts late in the game.
With starter Briean Boddy-Calhoun out with a knee injury, James and Jalen Myrick were opposite starter Eric Murray in the nickel package against Northwestern.
Myrick reportedly also had a leg injury in the shutout.
Through five games, James has five tackles. He has 12 punts for minus-7 yards.
