Gophers men's hockey: Late comeback comes up short at Notre Dame

A third-period rally was enough to get Minnesota even but not a victory Friday night as No. 18 Notre Dame rallied last for a 4-3 win in South Bend, Ind.

Leon Bristedt and Hudson Fasching had two goals each for the Gophers (2-4), including a pair of power-play scores to briefly tie it at 3-3 in the third.

But Jordan Gross beat Gophers goalie Eric Schierhorn at 18:04 for his second score of the night to give the Fighting Irish (4-1-2) the victory.

The Gophers' comeback was fueled by a five-minute major and game misconduct to Notre Dame's Dylan Malmquist for contact to the head followed by a cross checking penalty to Luke Ripley.
